Earthday in Seattle

Seattle Parks & Recreation is providing a slew of activities to celebrate Earth Day. Dave Bestock, a volunteer with Northwest Tree Alliance reccomends spending it at the beautiful Washington Park Arboretum. Here’s a map of volunteer work sites. Additionally Mayor Greg will be there to promote his agenda.

Hello, as you’ve likely heard, we’re co-sponsoring a grand Earth Day Event
this Saturday at the Washington Park Arboretum. Activities will include
speakers, multiple project sites throughout the park, and a kids’
education area for the younger folks. Some snacks will be provided, and
you are encouraged to bring a lunch.

Registration is from 9-9:30am, and speakers will begin promptly at 9:30am.
Mayor Nickels will be speaking, among others. The event will run until
2pm. Please come and register at the Graham Visitors Center, 2300
Arboretum Drive East, Seattle, WA 98112. Directions by bus are below.
All are welcome to attend!

Arboretum Visitors Center by bus:

From bus 43 or 48, get off at 24th Ave E & E McGraw St. Walk South one
block to E Lynn St. Head East on Lynn 3 blocks until it turns and
continue straight on foot past the playground and over the footbridge.
Stay left on the path after the footbridge, and follow it ~100 yds to the
visitors center.

From the Eastside, get off at Montlake, walk/transfer South on 24th to E
Lynn St, and follow directions as above.

Also coming up next weekend (April 29th and 30th) is the Florabundance Spring Plant Sale, a big fundraiser for the Arboretum, should help you get excited about the increasingly gardener-friendly weather. Of course they can use volunteers as well.
